CENTREP suggests the publication woulddiscourage others from indulging in corruption– Says publishing looters names would also strengthen the anti-corruption driveThe federal government has been urged by a group, the Centre for the Vulnerable and the Underprivileged (CENTREP) to publish the names of looters alongside the amount recovered from them. The organization made the call in a signed press statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, June 28, in Warri. According the executive director of the organization, Oghenejabor Ikimi, making public the names of looters would not only engender transparency, it would also boost the confidence of the people in the anti-corruption policy of the government. Ikimi who is also a legal practitioner said the publication would discourage others from indulging in corruption.“Publishing names of looters side by side the various currencies of monies recovered from them will go a long way to deter other serving public office holders presently engaged in the social vice of looting our public treasury.“CENTREP is of the view that non release ofthe names of looters side by side their lootswill create the impression that the government has something to hide,’’he said. Meanwhile, groups and prominent Nigerians have call for a detailed investigation of the the Chief of Army Staff,  Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the purchase of $1.5m properties in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. Sahara Reporters had reported that the Chief Of Army Staff and his two wives own$1.5m properties in Dubai.SERAP’s executive director,  Adetokunbo Mumuni,  said for the anti-corruption war to be seen as fair, the anti-graft agencies mustconsider whether Buratai could afford the properties based on his financial records as a civil servant. Also, the national publicity secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, told PUNCH that Buratai  should be probed over the allegation of the Dubai property scandal.
