*The three things that defines a man and where we are at fault in Africa !*
Before I proceed, I'll like to tell you I really want to be *MAD* in Africa .
A man is the most complicated thing created by God, even the wildest of animals knows this. Hence defining the things that makes a man will be nothing short of complicated. But being a man also - a part of the complicated gem, it isn't easy but you can from yourself and others around suggest the few things that has, that is and that will be defining who a man is. Though that wouldn't answer the question *"who are you?"*. The most difficult question for any man that his eyes and minds function beyond recognizing black from white. But at least, it will answer the question of what made you to be who you are.
The first thing that defines you as a man is your birth. Not birth location nor method this time around, but those who orchestrated your birth; your parents. Forget financial prowess that flows from parents to their children. Even the DNA you share with your parents that molds you is not really the bone of contention here, the real deal that defines a man is what he grew up to see his parents doing. Not to say a child of a drunkard will also grow up to become one, but take it or leave it, that behaviour of his parents will shape his own psychological state of being. Funny enough, even a young orphan will be influenced by the biography or story of his parent he heard.
The second in line will be his environment. For plants, environment defines virtually everything about them. The climatic condition, the type of soil, the organisms around amongst others. The sole reason you can hardly find fruits like apple and grapes growing in Africa. For humans, its almost the same thing. You know where a child raised on the street will end up and you know the "get-inside" kids are the potential salary earners; this is as understandable to the hoi-polloi anyway. In the real sense, the people, setting, financial status, culture and norms, religion practiced, peers, even the climatic condition also amongst others shapes what becomes of a man. If you're born in the riverine area, you just need the right mentorship to become another Michael Phelps. Also, don't blame an African that fainted while on the 'London eye', his environment never groomed him for that.
Lastly, the most vital thing that defines a man is his mind and the way he thinks. Both the parents and environment influence this, but once a man's thinking is limited to the influences of just the both, he failed already. Your thinking determines any and every single action you'll take in life; from becoming a president to the simplest of all tasks - breathing. Yes, your thinking controls your breath, medically and scientifically proven. Your reactions to people and occurrences is another part of what defines you as a man, this is also fully controlled by your thinking. Finally, the way you see things is that special ability that will drive you from the proletariat class to being a bourgeois or in the reverse case. The mind and body are one and the same, once the mind can picture it, the body can achieve it. Also, once the mind sees it as difficult, the body will fail in going for it, no matter how strong.
This is where the problem of Africa lies, our thinking has been corroded, greed is killing the superiors while fear and negativity - being pessimistic is slaughtering the inferiors. If you think Africa will be better, you can make it better, and to the "it can only get worse" team, your thinking won't allow you contribute to its betterment.
On a final note, you can change the environment, do away with the parents but nothing can be done to change a man's *thinking*, and that's the main thing that defines a man. Hence, a man is his own problem and also his solution lies within him.
When I said I want to be *mad* earlier on, I only want to be *M*aking *A* *D*ifference.
